Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

Milton Public School timetables a 30 minute slot for Special Religious Education (SRE) each week (currently Tuesday).

Parents may select from three providers:

Catholic

Combined Christian Churches

Buddhist

Parents may elect to withdraw their child from SRE lessons in which case students will be grouped together to complete homework tasks, read quietly or participate in other worthwhile activities.

To withdraw a student from SRE the school requires a letter from a parent/carer. Students will continue the same arrangement as the previous year, unless a parent/carer has requested a change in writing.

Parents who elect to withdraw a student from SRE lessons may choose to participate in Special Education in Ethics lessons (SEE) which run concurrently to SRE.

More information on SRE or SEE may be obtained by contacting the school.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
